Vision and Mission
The goal of my research is to use bio-inspired interfacial and material science and engineering approaches to develop sustainable solutions to global problems related to water, health, and energy. Towards this goal, I have designed and developed a number of novel surface coatings for reducing waste generation, collecting water from air, harvesting solar energy, enhancing heat transfer, and reducing marine fouling.
Biological Inspiration
Plants, insects, and animals have developed various smart strategies of living through evolution, which provide us numerous solutions for engineering challenges. Examples include how to keep a surface clean, how to avoid rain drops for micro-drones, how to prevent COVID virus spreading, and more. My research has only investigated a small piece of this huge iceberg of inspirations from nature.
