Guangtao Zhai is a professor of the School of Electronics, Information and Electrical Engineering.

He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Displays (Elsevier) and is on the editorial board of Digital Signal Processing and Science China: Information Science. He is a member of IEEE CAS MSA and SPS IVMSP. He and his student received the best student paper award of PCS 2015,  the best student paper award of ICME 2016, the grand challenge award of Saliency360! at ICME 2017, the best paper award of IEEE Trans. Multimedia 2018, the best paper award of MMC workshop of ICME 2019 and DynaVis workshop of CVPR 2020, the best paper runner-up of IEEE Trans. Multimedia 2021, 2nd place of ECCV MIPI Quad-Bayer ReMosaic Challenge, 1st place of UGC VQA Contest FR Track in IEEE ICME 2021, best paper award of IEEE BTS 2022, 1st place of ICIP Grand Challenge in Video Distortion Detection and Classification in the Context of Video Surveillance.

His research insterests are in the area of multimedia signal processing with emphasis on quality of experience.
